What a season!
A huge and heartfelt THANK YOU to each and every one of you amazing Extension Master Gardeners who rolled up your sleeves, donned your sun hats, and brought the plant sales to life this May!
From organizing tables and labeling plants to sharing your knowledge with curious shoppers and spreading joy one seedling at a time — your energy, enthusiasm, and expertise made these events bloom brighter than ever!
Thanks to your dedication, we not only raised funds, but also cultivated connections in our communities and sparked a love of gardening in so many.
We couldn’t have done it without you, and we’re so lucky to grow with such a fantastic team. Here’s to dirt under our nails, smiles on our faces, and plenty more garden magic ahead!
Southern Nye County Extension Master Gardener Honored at 2025 Growing HOPE Volunteer Recognition Event
Steve Richardson was awarded the Desert Sage Award!
Steve has totaled over 3,000 volunteers hours in the 12 years of being a part of the Extension Master Gardener program in Southern Nye County. He has overseen and actively accomplished multiple projects in the demonstrations gardens, such as irrigation mapping and programming pergola installations, pathway improvements, and tree plantings, as well as many hours of garden maintenance. Steve even served as their county program's president seven times!
Steve's positive, calm manner and measured knowledgeable approach have been a steadfast foundation in the Southern Nye County Master Gardener program.

It's the Great Pumpkin, Master Gardeners
Southern Nye County Master Gardeners are promoting community family fun, giving out donated "Big Max" seeds to plant now, to enter a Giant pumpkin into the Pahrump Fall Fair, intake days September 23rd and 24th, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Past years' winning pumpkin weighed in at 70lbs! For details about the Pahrump Fall Fair, go to pahrumpnv.gov/302.

Registration for the Home Horticulture Certificate Program is now OPEN!
Do you have some friends or family interest in becoming a Master Gardener volunteer?
This program covers home gardening in all parts of the state of Nevada! The Home Horticulture Certificate Program was developed by the University of Nevada, Reno Extension Horticulture team from around the state to provide basic horticulture education to homeowners, educators, and anyone interested in learning more about the Nevada landscapes, plants, and more. Topics address information on gardening specific to Southern Nevada, Northern Nevada, and rural counties.
The program is completely online through the University of Nevada, Reno Extension. The program includes pre-recorded lectures, reading, homework, and live Q & A sessions every Thursday from 12 - 1 p.m. with horticulture professionals.
The Home Horticulture Certificate Program is Part 1 of the Master Gardener Training.

This document is intended to be an operational guide and reference tool for Extension professionals and volunteers involved in the Extension Master Gardener program to help accomplish the mission and values of the program and Extension through the outreach within our Nevada communities. The handbook will be reviewed regularly by Extension professionals and volunteers to ensure its relevance and accuracy in meeting the needs of the Extension professionals and volunteers.
This document is a living document, but when updates occur, they will be communicated with our Extension professionals and volunteers.
Counties within Nevada may have a county handbook that includes additional county-specific information. Please be in contact with your county.
