Summary

The Healthy Steps to Freedom program (HSF) is a health and body image curriculum that addresses gender-specific, health-related issues unique to females in treatment for substance use disorders, particularly those at risk for use of methamphetamine, speed and other illegal stimulants. Developed to augment existing substance use/misuse programming through provision of health education, this 10-week program incorporates healthy lifestyle practices as an alternative approach to weight loss and desire for increased energy. HSF incorporates education related to nutrition; physical activity; and other topics that address body image disturbances, disordered eating behaviors, and poor lifestyle practices.
