Home Horticulture Certificate Program
The Home Horticulture Certificate Program is an online program developed by the University of Nevada, Reno Extension Horticulture team to provide basic horticulture education to homeowners, educators, and anyone interested in learning more about the Nevada landscapes, plants, and more.
About the Certificate Program
The program is completely online through the University of Nevada, Reno Extension. The program includes pre-recorded lectures, reading, homework, and live Q & A sessions with horticulture professionals. Live Q & A sessions are hosted on Zoom.
Some topics covered in the course are: soils & plant nutrients, composting, native plants, small fruits, integrated pest management (IPM), and more.
After completing the final exam for the Home Horticulture Certificate Program you will
be awarded a certificate of completion. There is no professional designation or title given after completing the program, but may be used on resumes as professional development.
The Home Horticulture Certificate Program is a prerequisite for those interested in becoming Master Gardener volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a Master Gardener volunteer, please contact your local Extension office.
Cost
The cost of the Home Horticulture Certificate Program is $275. The funds from the program include course materials and support the UNR Extension horticulture program and staff. Additional reading materials will be suggested for participants to purchase on their own.
