Lincoln County Extension Office Budget
Normally, the budget for the Caliente Extension Office is handled by the Extension Educator. The Ag/Admin Clerk is involved with the budget, paying bills, processing Travel Expenses, Time rolls, and any other expenses that come up. Another expense item that has had a favorable effect on the budget is the use of the company car this past year. The fuel expenses for that car are provided by the University.
Lincoln County 4-H Program
Our 4-H staff member Cindy Higbee oversees the county program. October 4, 2024, to September 30, 2025, Lincoln County had 3 clubs participate in 21 4-H projects: 1 in the fall to spring, and the other 20 in the summer, running from May to September. We had 23 project leaders working on those projects with 149 4-H members. 4-H is a vital program in the county.
Farmer’s Market
The Lincoln County Farmers’ Market serves Lincoln County from May to October. This year, the team served 673 families, totaling 1518 people. The aim was to supply people with edible food and vegetables by providing $20 coupons to anyone needing help. Those who can afford to purchase food are also allowed to shop at the market. This Farmer’s Market has operated successfully for several years with a grant from the Nye County Coalition.
Lincoln County Authority of Tourism
This program was developed by Lincoln County Extension in 2017 to provide a way to reach members of the Lincoln County Community to bring them together and share information. The aim of LCAT has changed to bring more economic opportunities to Lincoln County, largely through tourism. The county has seven State Parks and several newly developed bike trails, providing a draw from Clark County and western Utah. There are also new camping and sightseeing programs being developed to provide tourists with an opportunity to view the incredible beauty Lincoln County has to offer. The Lincoln County Educator helps lead the LCAT team.
RADON Annual Program
The team's participation in the Radon program provides a vital opportunity for people in the county to test their homes for the insidious effects of Radon gas seeping into their homes. The team advertises in November and December for the “Free” Radon Kits being offered in the months of January and February. If the tests reveal a high radon result, we direct them to a provider for radon mitigation. This year, the program offered a new free radon monitoring lending program.
Lincoln County Conservation District, NRCS and Lincoln County Workforce
The Extension team, LCCD, NRCS and LCW all share the same office building. All occupants work together as needed, and this collaboration gives Extension an additional arm to help Lincoln County.
Fiscal Overview
- Lincoln County’s annual funds from property taxes and miscellaneous other funds are $35,322.
- The beginning fund balance is $33,634 for total available resources of $68,956.
- Expenditures were $48,826 with an ending fund balance of $22,130.
Lincoln County did not have an Educator in place during the last half of the 2024-2025 fiscal year to use the remaining fund balance. The target date for hiring a new Educator is late fall of 2025.
