Highlights

  • A suite of metals was measured in snowpacks from the Rocky Mountain region.
  • Lanthanum and cerium concentrations support mineral dust to southern sites.
  • Antimony, cadmium, mercury, and zinc support anthropogenic sources to northern sites.
  • Temporally consistent contaminant sources and/or transport processes were observed.
  • Contaminant sources potentially include current and historical mining, and smelting.
