In memory of Curtis Waite
Located next to the Clark County Fairgrounds' Fine Arts Building is the Curtis Waite Memorial Desert Garden. A former Logandale resident, Curtis "Bud" Waite, designed, gained the support of the community for and started this garden years ago. Curtis was passionate about gardening. He organized the Moapa Valley Gardeners Association and was active in the Clark County Fair's Horticulture Division. He passed away in 2010, but his memorial garden lives on and is dedicated to his love for teaching and inspiring others to garden.
Now, the garden is maintained by Extension and our Master Gardener Volunteers in collaboration with community partners, including Star Nursery of Las Vegas, Dr. Q, Boy Scout Troup 4, Parks and Recreation Services, and the Clark County Fair Organization, among others. Volunteers who have helped with the garden include Maureen Gass, Andrea Meckley, Pam Proctor and Catherine Ellerton.
During the Clark County Fair, fairgoers can go on a tour of the memorial garden guided by our Master Gardeners. Enjoy the pomegranate, lemon, bottle brush and palm trees; the rose and cactus gardens; and the wandering pathways, fountain and garden pool.
