Yellow Petal Flower Farm named 2024 Nevada Agriculture, Food and Beverage Small Business of the Year

The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), in partnership with Made in Nevada (MIN), awarded Yellow Petal Flower Farm from Fallon, Nevada, the 2024 Nevada Agriculture, Food and Beverage Small Business of the Year Award. This recognition, presented alongside Senator Robin Titus and representatives from Governor Joe Lombardo and Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony’s offices, honors the farm’s exceptional contribution to the state’s agricultural community. Selected from 22 nominations, Yellow Petal Flower Farm was commended for its service to Churchill County, support for fellow farmers, and efforts to connect consumers with local produce. The award highlights the farm’s commitment to nurturing both its crops and community, with owner Kim Urso expressing deep gratitude for the support and recognition of their work.

Extension offers combined small-acreage and farm-to-fork certification program

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Herds & Harvest Program is introducing a comprehensive certification course for new and emerging Nevada farmers and ranchers, running from January 22 to March 19. The program, held via Zoom on Wednesday evenings, includes topics ranging from soil health to farm financial management, supplemented by field trips to local farms. Participants who complete the course, attend a field trip or one of the spring Nevada agriculture conferences, and successfully submit a business plan review will earn their Nevada Beginning Farmer & Rancher Level 1 Small Acreage and Farm-to-Fork Certification.
