Radon is an invisible, odorless gas and the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. Because the only way to know if radon is in your home is to test, Extension's Nevada Radon Education Program is making testing easier than ever by providing test kits and its Nevada Free Radon Monitor Lending Program.

 

Get a radon test kit. If your test results show a radon level of 2.7 picocuries per liter (pCi/L) or higher, test your home again. If the second test is also high, you need to fix the problem.

Pick up a test kit from your local Extension office or any pick-up location listed below! The Extension office in Washoe County accepts credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only.) All other Extension offices accept cash or check only!

Radon monitor locations ( Only available at county Extension offices)

Extension's Nevada Radon Education Program recently launched a new, statewide Radon Monitor Lending Program to help more Nevadans identify and reduce exposure — protecting the health of families across the state.

Through this new program, each of Nevada’s 17 county Extension offices, along with a campus and a hospital pick-up location, have Blue Echo digital radon monitors that residents can borrow — just like checking out a library book.

These easy-to-use devices provide immediate results, don’t require Wi-Fi, and are ideal for homes in both urban and rural areas. Monitors may be borrowed for up to two weeks, with no fees or deposits required.

The below interactive online map makes it easy to find the nearest Nevada Radon Monitor pick-up location, and staff at each office can provide simple instructions and answer any questions.

When using a monitor, be sure to set the device to display the average radon level — that’s the most important number to note.
