The focus of the Clark County 4-H Healthy Living team is to enrich the community by educating youth on the importance of health, wellness, personal development, and academic success. Our programming empowers youth to be healthy - body and mind - with the skills to make healthy decisions and lead healthy lifestyles. Having the confidence and skills to lead healthy lives not only improves overall well-being but also enables youth to tackle life's challenges today and become leaders tomorrow.

4-H Healthy Living Programs

Health Rocks! Applies 4-H's successful Positive Youth Development model with life skill development and decision-making philosophy to the challenge of reducing tobacco, alcohol, e-cigarette/vaping and drug use. This program has two levels with the beginner level designed for youth ages 8-12, and the intermediate level for youth ages 12-14.

Healthy Me is an interactive literacy-based program for youth ages 5-8 that uses carefully selected children's books to spark meaningful conversations and activities around personal growth, wellness, and emotional intelligence. Each session centers around a themed children's book and explores topics like developing a sense of self, managing time and stress, creating healthy friendships, and setting goals. 

 

4-H Mindfulness utilizes the curricula's Mindful Mechanics and GEM: Get Experience in Mindfulness, this program will educate youth on the importance of being present, improving awareness, identifying stressors, and effective strategies for coping. Participants will also be encouraged to build positive relationships through expressing care, concern and gratitude for others, practice self-discipline, self-control, and self-reflection. 

Simple Snacks was designed to teach youth the importance of nutritious foods, basic kitchen skills and safety, and how to create lasting healthy habits both in and out of the kitchen.

Life Skills is a fun, hands-on program designed for youth (11-13 or 14-18) to build confidence and gain practical skills they can use every day - at home, at school, and in their future. This engaging program helps young teens develop important life skills through activities, group discussions, and real-world practice. Each session focuses on a different topic that supports healthy habits, independence, and personal growth. 

Next Steps: College Readiness Program's mission is to guide and motivate youth and their families on the path to achieving a post-secondary education. The Next Steps program provides participants of middle school and high school age the tools to apply to college and ease the transition from high school to a post-secondary institution.

Thanks to the  Nevada First-Gen Network, in 2024, $10,000 in scholarship funds were distributed to first generation college students who participated in the Next Steps: College Readiness Program.

Clark County, Las Vegas, Nevada 4-H 2024-25 Program Evaluation Report
During the 2024-25 4-H program year, the Clark County Extension team reached 15,468 youth participants and delivered 6,155 hours of programming. The urban Extension team reached 12,654 youth participants, delivered 5,487 hours of programming, and delivered 421 programs at 113 program sites.
