Nutrition Education for Adults

University of Nevada, Reno Extension, together with funding by the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, is proud to offer not only the traditional Eating Smart, Being Active adult curriculum, but also a new curriculum especially designed for young adults, aged 19-29. We are pleased to introduce Fuel for Life, developed by North Carolina State University Extension, to equip high school and college students with essential life skills.

Fuel For Life | Nutrition Education for Young Adults (19-29 years, with no children)

Fuel for Life helps high school, college, and emerging adult participants understand how to nourish their bodies for energy, focus, and overall well-being. Through hands-on lessons, they learn to make balanced food choices, build healthy eating habits, and understand the connection between nutrition, activity, and long-term health. This program empowers individuals to take control of their wellness with practical strategies that fit real-life schedules.​

This course is taught in ENGLISH.

Eating Smart Being Active | Nutrition Education for Adults (19+ years)

This program teaches practical, hands-on strategies for making healthier food choices and staying active every day. Participants learn how to plan balanced meals on a budget, read nutrition labels, enjoy a variety of fruits and vegetables, and incorporate fun physical activity into their daily routines. Lessons are interactive, family-friendly, and designed to empower individuals to build lifelong healthy habits.​ 

This course is taught in both ENGLISH and SPANISH, in community settings and virtually to accommodate your busy lifestyle.   

Este programa enseña estrategias prácticas y aplicables para elegir alimentos más saludables y mantenerse activo a diario. Los participantes aprenden a planificar comidas equilibradas ajustándose a su presupuesto, a leer etiquetas nutricionales, a disfrutar de una variedad de frutas y verduras y a incorporar actividades físicas divertidas en su rutina diaria. Las sesiones son interactivas, aptas para toda la familia y están diseñadas para capacitar a las personas a adoptar hábitos saludables para toda la vida.

Este curso se imparte tanto en inglés como en español, tanto en entornos comunitarios como en modalidad virtual, para adaptarse a su ritmo de vida.

Nutrition Education for Youth (grades 6 -12)

Under the umbrella of the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program funding, we are proud to expand our educational offerings beyond the traditional Eating Smart, Being Active adult curriculum. We are pleased to present two additional courses for younger audiences! Teen Cuisine is used with permission and developed by the Virginia Cooperative Extension, Virginia State University. Choose Health: Food, Fun, & Fitness (CHFFF)  is used with permission and developed by Cornell University.

Choose Health: Food, Fun, & Fitness (CHFFF)

Choose Health: Food, Fun, & Fitness (CHFFF) is a seven-lesson series for youth in grades 6–8 that uses experiential learning to teach healthy eating and active play. The program includes seven 50-minute lessons featuring hands-onnutrition and problem-solving activities, healthy food tastings, active games, and weekly goal-setting exercises. Activities include comparing Nutrition Facts labels, visualizing sugar in drinks and fat in fast foods, and using real-food models to create balanced meals with recommended servings of fruits and vegetables. CHFFF is ideal for in-schoolsettings, especially science or physical education classes, as it fits easily into middle school academic periods.​

This class is taught in ENGLISH, with minimal SPANISH translation.  

Teen Cuisine

Teen Cuisine is a six-lesson hybrid cooking and nutrition program designed to teach youth in 6th - 12th grades the life skills that promote optimal health through key concepts of nutrition, food preparation/cooking, food safety, and physical activity. Across six (6) 90-minute lessons, participants learn to make healthy meals, read food labels, shop smart, stay active, and build kitchen and life skills for everyday use. Each hands-on class includes preparing tasty recipes, trying new foods, and exploring nutrition and healthy habits. Teen Cuisine is perfect for after-school, summer school, or community settings and is ideal for teens who want to eat better, move more, and take charge of their health.​

This course is taught in ENGLISH, with SPANISH translation available.
