University of Nevada, Reno Extension Workshops led by
Kevin Burls, Integrated Pest Management Educator
Pollinators such as native bees are crucial for helping produce the fruits and vegetables we grow and eat in Nevada. But it’s not just bees and butterflies- wasps and flies also visit native flowers, and they provide another important service as pest control for many farm and garden insect pests. This workshop will cover local pollinator diversity and ecology, review common native plants and how to garden for pollinators, and end with a short hands-on demonstration planting native pollinator seedlings at the demonstration pollinator gardens at the Truckee Meadows Nature Study Area in Reno or at the Elko County Extension Office.
At the end, you’ll be given free native pollinator seedlings adapted for your area!

Kevin Burls received his Ph.D. from the University of Nevada, Reno, in 2014 and has been the Integrated Pest Management Educator for the University of Nevada Extension since 2015. His specialties include local pollinator ecology and conservation and using native insects for controlling insect pests.
