Home Horticulture Certificate Program 

Opens in May 2026

The Home Horticulture Certificate Program is an online program developed by the University of Nevada, Reno Extension horticulture team to provide basic horticulture education to homeowners, educators and anyone interested in learning more about the Nevada landscapes, plants and more.

This class is the prerequisite for becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer.

Who are Master Gardeners?

Master Gardeners are volunteers who have been trained in the finer points of gardening to improve their own knowledge and share it with others. Master Gardeners provide free, research-based horticulture information to Nevadans. As volunteers, Master Gardeners contribute volunteer hours eMaster Gardener volunteers visiting Sierra Shadows Lavender Farm in Douglas Countyvery year through a variety of projects, including but not limited to:

  • Answering telephone and email inquiries
  • Conducting educational presentations in the community
  • Consulting at school and community gardens
  • Staffing booths at fairs and home shows
