Nye County 4-H has been able to adapt quickly and offer needed programming to the youth in our community through the following clubs and short-term programs:
Community Club
The 4-H Community Club meets monthly via Zoom, where club members are supported to stay healthy through the pandemic. Members made plans for future activities they would like to see offered, run their own business meetings and complete community service projects. In addition, the club offers a weekly Creative Writing meetup via Zoom and provides training for adult and teen leaders. The club also provides at-home activities, such as science kits and craft kits, to help local youth get through the shutdown. Many youth participate in virtual planning from Extension covering topics such as debate, voting, cultures and college readiness.
Awkward Silence
The Awkward Silence high school robotics team meets in person at least twice a week to work on their robot build and engineering. Part of the worldwide For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Tech Challenge, the team is well-known in the local and FIRST communities and they mentor teams at all levels in southern Nevada.
Bullseye Shooting Sports
Bullseye Shooting Sports offers training in responsible firearms usage and helps youth develop skills in leadership in addition to archery, shotgun, muzzleloader and rifle skills. Club members compete in local, state, and national contests.
Dog Den
The Dog Den 4-H Club meets weekly in person with their dogs to work on agility, rally, obedience and showmanship. Members compete in 4-H and community events. They are also active in the community with community service cleanup projects, participating in disc leagues and more.
Word Play Cafe'
Word Play Cafe' is a creative writing club that meets weekly. Learning new ways to express themselves, they share and create together as well as learn about the plethora of writing types, many of which come with their own story of culture and tradition.
Cloverbuds
Cloverbuds meets twice a month. This club is our youngest 4-H members (5-8 years old). They participate in a variety of activities including mindfulness, crafts, STEAM, and more.
New programming is coming to Amargosa Valley and Beatty/Oasis Valley in 2022.
