Class Dates:

The classes will be held from 3 - 5 p.m., Fridays from March 21 to April 25, at Extension in North Las Vegas, 2280 McDaniel St. Participants will learn innovative hydroponic techniques, resource-efficient growing methods and practical strategies to maximize yields in controlled environments.

About the Certificate Program:

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension Urban & Indoor Agriculture team developed the Hydroponic Crops Production Certificate Course to teach commercial growers, educators, home gardeners, Master Gardeners, and anyone interested in hydroponic systems and soil-free plant cultivation.

The course is offered in person at the University of Nevada, Reno Extension in North Las Vegas. The course consists of readings, lectures and hands-on training from experts in urban horticulture.

Hydroponic culture

Participants in the hydroponics course will have access to Extension’s research facility, where they can experience firsthand the three hydroponic systems in action: nutrient film technique, deep water culture and aeroponics. They'll gain hands-on expertise in:

  • Hydroponic systems design and management
  • Plant nutrition, pH balancing and nutrient solutions
  • Environmental controls, including light, temperature, humidity and airflow
  • Pest and disease prevention strategies 
  • Harvesting, food safety and post-harvest handling

Master Gardeners who wish to work with the Hydroponics program must complete this class as part of the requirements for Advanced Certification in Hydroponics.

 Cost:

The hydroponic crops production certificate course costs $100. The program's funds include course materials and staff support. Participants will be recommended to purchase additional reading resources independently.
